Machining:

I achieved a grade of 100% in the Basic Machining Course at George Brown College, where I developed hands-on proficiency with manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and other machining tools. As the main course project, I manufactured a fully functional piston from raw stock, performing operations including turning, facing, drilling, and milling. The course strengthened my skills in machine setup, tool selection, precision measurement, GD&T, and dimensional tolerancing. I also inspected the finished component against drawing requirements, with the final part receiving a score of 100% for accuracy, quality, and adherence to manufacturing specifications.

Welding:

During my two-day Introduction to Welding course at George Brown College, I developed hands-on experience with shielded metal arc welding and oxy-acetylene welding. One of the main exercises involved creating a pad of five overlapping welds using shielded metal arc welding. I initially found the process intimidating, but improved by focusing carefully on travel speed and maintaining a consistent electrode distance to produce cleaner, more uniform welds.

For the oxy-acetylene portion of the course, I created a series of corner joints using both fusion and filler welding, connected by a butt joint. This gave me experience with different joint types and welding techniques. I especially enjoyed the process of refining each weld and trying to improve consistency and quality. Given the short duration of the course, I was proud of the progress I made and the practical skills I developed.
